Make Our Country Proud

“I'm proud to be an Indian”, people say this twice a year: on Independence Day and Republic Day.
Do you remember saying this on any other day? Or buying flags, posting patriotic pictures and quotes on a casual day? Well, No, I don’t think so. Anyway, let’s talk about today. So how do you celebrate Republic Day? Is it the same way you celebrate any other festival, like Holi or Diwali?
If not, I’m not here to ask you or inspire you to celebrate it like other festivals. But, I’m here to engender optimism in you by enlightening you with the simple ways you can contribute to our nation every single day. Before that, I would like to bring your attention towards the things that are happening around us these days.

People like you and me construct a nation. If you are a regular reader, you must be aware of the issues we are going through. An issue could be of parking or traffic or inter-caste marriage or anything. But what happens next is Brawl/Clash. A small fight that began from parking can even lead to murder. Does this issue worth a life? Everyone now has a fast-paced life so they tend to break traffic rules which somehow results in an accident. Is that worth? An issue like inter-caste marriage can lead to honour killing. Is it worth losing our close ones? The political parties that fight with each other for getting in power and try each and every method to show each other down are worth? And then at the end of the day, we blame the government and criticize our own country by saying, ‘han yr ye India h, yaha kuch ni hoga’ , ‘Kitni clean road hai, india lag hi ni rha’, ‘bilkul safe ni hai yahan toh’ and other stuff. Basically, we play the blame games for the things we do.
I’m sorry but if you are one of these people, you don’t deserve to have a place in India or even in any other country.

Well, today it's not about it is worth for us or not. Today, it's about the soldiers who are standing in frosty cold or acute hot weather with vehemence at the border. Is it worth for them? Do they not feel dishonoured and disheartened after knowing these issues? Do they not reconsider that is it worth for them to be there at the border and not with their families when people inside the country are fighting and killing each other for useless issues? The police officers, doctors and traffic police who cannot be with their families to celebrate Holi, Diwali and New Year Eves and rather are on duty on that particular day, do they not feel worthless when they hear about the crises? Do these people not deserve to be with their families?

No, I don’t think these legends deserve this at all. They deserve all the respect and love from us. We can’t go and thank each one of them. But we can do these simple steps and make it worth for them. We can make our country a better place for them and for us. Here is what we can do:

1.    Follow traffic rules. It's for your safety. Do not cross the red light and wear seat belts.
2.    Respect each other as an individual. Accept religions and respect opinions.
3.    Always use dustbins. Do not ever throw anything on road.
4.   Do not indulge in unnecessary fights that won’t be useful in the long term but may you harm in long term.
5.    Do not buy the flag one day and then disrespect it on the other day.

I urge you to follow these simple yet incredible steps and see how beautiful our nation can be. I guarantee if even some people tend to follow these, it will make a change.
Well, in case you are still don’t think its worth doing for our ‘India’. Here are some unknown facts that will make you proud of your nation.

4.    The world's highest cricket ground is in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. Built-in 1893 after levelling a hilltop, this cricket pitch is 2444 meters above sea level.

  1. Well articulated dear.. This reminded me of a dialogue from Rang De Basanti.. “Koi bhi desh perfect nahi hota, usey perfect banana padta hai”. If we do our duties as responsible citizens, more than half of our problems will be solved. Keep it up!
